Mission

To disseminate research, clinical cases and experiences developed in biomedical and public health areas, both nationally and internationally, and promote research in the different fields of human medicine. 

Aims and scope

Horizonte Médico (Lima), a quarterly bilingual (Spanish and English) publication edited by the School of Human Medicine of Universidad de San Martín de Porres, aims at disseminating original works and professional experiences developed in biomedical and public health areas, both nationally and internationally, and promoting research in the different fields of human medicine including, but not limited to, the following areas: 

  • Medicine and health-related professions 
  • Public and occupational health 
  • Surgery 
  • Medical education and other health-related social issues 

Manuscript submission is opened to medical researchers, as well as bio-psycho-medical-social sciences professionals or students from any university, health facility or research institution who write original and unpublished manuscripts. 

Contributions submitted to the journal, either in Spanish or English, may belong to the following sections: editorial, original article, brief communication, review article, case report, opinion article, history, biosketch and letter to the editor (read more). 

Peer review

Peer review is conducted by double blind peer reviewi.e., reviewers do not know the identity of the manuscripts’ authors, and authors do not know the identity of the reviewers. Manuscripts submitted for the journal’s different sectionsi.e., original articles, brief communications, review articles, case reports and opinion articlesare assessed by peer reviewers (read more).  

Open access policy

Horizonte Médico (Horiz. Med.) journal’s research outputs are published free of charge and are freely available to download under the open access model, aimed at disseminating works and experiences developed in biomedical and public health areas, both nationally and internationally, and promoting research in the different fields of human medicine. All manuscripts accepted and published in the journal are distributed free of charge under the terms of a Creative Commons license – Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). 

Publication frequency

The journal is published quarterlyi.e., it publishes new work in regular issues, four times a year, in the following periods: January-March, April-June, July-September and October-December. 

Publication timeline

The timeline between the submission of a research manuscript and its acceptance by the journal may be, in average, as long as twelve (12) weeks (Source: DOAJ).
