Education in the 20th century was characterized by its democratization: it became free and compulsory, regardless of the economic or social position of the student, and changed to a progressive education focused on the needs and potential of the learner. It was the century of teacher education and training. The State had a leading role in education, since it was a basic obligation for its citizens. In other words, it corresponds to a period of great reforms.
